Spiced holiday puppy chow

One of my go to home made sweets is puppy chow. It's called puppy chow because it kinda looks like dog food and if you like it as much as me you'll tell people it is to keep their paws off it! It's a great snack and so easy (and fun) to make you'll wonder why you haven't made it before.

I changed the traditional recipe up just a little bit but it makes a huge difference. To be honest I even ruined the first batch but when I mixed it with the second batch you couldn't tell the difference. This recipe is going to be a few variations. Its up to you how much spice you want in the mix.

Spiced Puppy Chow

1 box chex cereal

2 cups chocolate chips (if you can find the cinnamon chips do one cup of that with one cup of plain chocolate chips)

3-5 tablespoons butter (you can gauge the amount of butter so you don't over do it but this is whats going to help with making the chocolate smoother.)

2 cups powdered sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon, garam masala OR pumpkin pie spice.

1. In a large microwave safe bowl put the chocolate chips and butter. Microwave the chocolate at 20 second intervals. Stir between each interval until its smooth and the consistency of pudding but be careful not to over do it. I messed this step up and it just clumped together. add half of your spices and mix well.

2. In two grocery bags put into each other that don't have any holes (seriously check for holes you'll see why later) add the powdered sugar and spices. Mix well and set aside.

3. Slowly add the chex mix and stir. Your going to try and coat as best you can. Yes it's going to break the chex a little bit and it won't look fully coated but it's fine. Don't spend too much time trying to coat it because the chocolate has to be moist when you add it to the sugar.

4. Add the chex mix to the bag of sugar. Close the bag with air in it. Remember when you were a kid and you would trap air in a bag to pop behind your sibling and scare them? Ya like that. Now shake shake SHAKE. It will coat all the pieces and seal the chocolate. If you can still see wet chocolate add a little more powdered sugar and mix again. If it has too much powdered sugar put it in a colander and shake off the excess.

Your done! Enjoy, share and don't blame me for the belly ache from eating too much :) Happy holidays

OH YA! This is why you check for holes in the bag. You know unless you were trying to recreate a New York Christmas in your kitchen
